I have done many contests before having just my friends vote. I was wondering what it is like to use this site. How many votes can I expect to receive for various contests on a given day. I just want to know if it is more beneficial or not.

pretty much the more time you involve the more votes you get. Most people get atleast 10 posts a day if not more. Depending on the type of contest they do. Daily get the most votes I have seen some get 25 votes + a day. While 1x are usually a little bit slower.
